According to a report from Chronicle Live, West Ham United right-back Harrison Ashby has completed his move to Newcastle United for a transfer fee of £3 million. It was understood that the Magpies were speculated with bringing in Fran Garcia of Rayo Vallecano, however, the Tyneside club settled with Ashby on deadline day.
Ashby’s Rise To The West Ham United Senior Team
Harrison Ashby started out at Chelsea as a youngster before heading to West Ham‘s Youth academy in 2017. At the age of 16, he managed to make 13 Under-18 Premier League appearances across his first two seasons with the Hammers.
He then signed his first professional contract with West Ham in the summer of 2020 after which he moved up to the Under-21 team remaining a consistent performer for them.
It was only in last season when David Moyes gave him his senior debut in the Premier League when he came on as an impact substitute for the East London club. He hasn’t been given enough opportunities in the first team but his record caught the eye of Eddie Howe which ensured his move to St. James’ Park this January.
Can He Prosper Under the Tutelage of Eddie Howe?
The 21-year-old has shown to have the potential to play at a high level and has enough experience under his belt to quickly catch on to Newcastle’s play style. The Scottish defender has sound technical and physical abilities which will develop further over the coming seasons.
The Former West Ham captain Mark Noble had only praises for him back when he made his debut.
All in all, the Scottish youngster could prove to be a decent understudy for Kieran Trippier and would definitely prosper under Eddie Howe if he remains disciplined. We can expect Ashby to be given a lot of chances in the right flank after he accommodates himself into the first team.
