Manchester United are the second-most successful English club in Europe and are known for its rich history in the UEFA Champions League. The Red Devils managed to clinch a UEFA Champions League place at the end of the 2022-23 Premier League campaign with Erik ten Hag now hoping to lead them to another European success in 2024.

Before we find out how many times the Mancunian club has lifted the famous European trophy, let’s take a look at their first Champions League success.

Man United won the Champions League trophy for the first time in the 1998-99 season when Sir Alex Ferguson masterminded a brilliant run to the final where they beat Bayern Munich by a 2-1 scoreline.

The Red Devils went on to win the Champions League again under Sir Alex Ferguson in the 2007-08 campaign.

How Many UEFA Champions League Trophies Have Manchester United Won?

Manchester United have won the European Cup three times, which includes two UEFA Champions League trophies (via transfermarkt). As mentioned earlier, Sir Alex Ferguson led them to their first success in the competition in the 1998-99 season.

Sir Alex managed to win the Champions League once again with Man United in the 2007-08 season. The Red Devils beat Chelsea in the final on penalties (6-5) after the contest finished 1-1 post-extra time at the Luzhniki Stadium.

Man United will look to win the Champions League once again in the 2023-24 season under the stewardship of Erik ten Hag.

The Mancunian giants are still three European Cups behind their arch-rivals, Liverpool, so Man United fans will be desperate for their club to close that gap by winning the Champions League in the not-too-distant future. However, it would be easier said than done considering their lack of experience in the competition over the past decade.
