AS Roma is one of the most successful clubs in the history of Italian football. The Roman club have won 17 major trophies since being founded in 1927 (via transfermarkt).

Roma have won the league title three times and the Italian Cup nine times in their history. They also lifted the UEFA Europa Conference League trophy in 2022 under the expert guidance of Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese head coach managed to lead Roma to challenge for a top-four place in the 2022-23 Serie A campaign. Now that Roma are competing for major honours, let’s take a look at their first league triumph.

AS Roma won their first league title in the 1941-42 season. It was the first major trophy in their history with Mourinho now hoping to lead them to another title run in the 2023-24 campaign.

When Was The Last Time AS Roma Won The Serie A Title?

AS Roma’s last league success came in the 2000-01 season when they saw off Juventus’ challenge and clinched their third league title in history. Roma finished that campaign with 75 points which was just two points above second-placed, Juventus.

The Roman club scored 68 goals and shipped in 33 goals during the 2000-01 season which was enough for them to lift the league title.

Gabriel Batistuta finished as Roma’s top goal-scorer that campaign as he banged in 20 goals for them in the league.

Mourinho will now hope that Paulo Dybala can replicate his fellow countryman’s feat by firing Roma to another league title in the coming seasons. However, the jury is still out on whether Roma’s current squad is good enough to challenge for the right to become champions of Italy in the future based on how they have performed in the 2022-23 Serie A campaign.
