As they step onto the Anfield pitch for the last time in the 2022-23 Premier League season, Liverpool prepare to host Aston Villa in a Saturday afternoon clash on Merseyside. The Reds aim to secure their eighth consecutive win, ensuring they stay in close pursuit of the top four positions. Meanwhile, Unai Emery’s side still maintain aspirations of securing a spot in continental competitions.

Liverpool Vs Aston Villa: Talking Tactics

Jurgen Klopp is likely to choose the predicted XI in a 4-3-3 formation, and he is expected to stick with the same starting lineup for this encounter. As a result, we can anticipate Cody Gakpo taking the central attacking role, supported by Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah on the flanks.

On the other hand, Unai Emery is expected to opt for a 4-4-2 formation and make minimal changes. Boubacar Kamara could get the nod over Leon Bailey, while John McGinn is set to assume a wide role.

Team News

Klopp is optimistic that Firmino will recover from a muscular issue in time for his farewell appearance at Anfield. However, the same cannot be said for Keita, currently facing uncertainty. Additionally, Thiago Alcantara (hip), Stefan Bajcetic (adductor), and Calvin Ramsay (knee) continue to be sidelined with long-term injuries. Furthermore, Darwin Nunez has emerged as a fresh doubt for the upcoming match due to a toe problem, which prevented his participation in the victory over Leicester.

Meanwhile, Matty Cash has returned to the matchday squad after recovering from a calf problem, providing a boost for Aston Villa. The only other injury absentee for them is backup goalkeeper Jed Steer, who is sidelined for the season due to his own calf injury. As they travel to Anfield, Unai Emery may consider making changes to the team despite their success last week.
