Leeds United’s brilliant start to the season came to a halt as they suffered back to back defeats against Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday. The Whites have been chasing their unfulfilled dream of returning to the Premier League and this season could be that most sought-after campaign which they have been craving for, so long.

Thomas Christiansen was very busy throughout the summer as Leeds recruited a number of players, but the gaffer is still looking to add more depth to his side and has reportedly identified Mimoun Mahi of FC Groningen as a potential target.

Leeds have been particularly impressive with their attacking instincts this season and have scored goals galore. The likes of Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Samu Saiz have been quite brilliant with their performances and have kept Leeds in the hunt for a direct promotion.

But the gaffer wants more competition on the side and wants to introduce some fresh blood to keep the ante high, for the remaining of the season. Mahi moved to the Dutch club back in 2014 and has kept his brilliant form since his inception to the big league.

The youngster graduated from the Sparta Rotterdam academy and burst into the scene before Groningen came calling for his services. He has represented Holland at various youth levels but a dearth of chances compelled him to switch his allegiance to Morocco.

The 23-year-old mainly operates from the left wing but is equally comfortable on the other flank. If needed, he can be an imminent centre-forward and also has the quality to make the ball talk from a no. 10 position.

Swansea City were on the verge of bringing the player to Liberty Stadium last season. The Swans were flirting with the relegation zone and Paul Clement thought the youngster could be a solution to their long-standing woes but the Swans didn’t need his help as combining effort of Fernando Llorente and Gylfi Sigurdsson helped them to ensure safety at the end of the last season.

Mahi led Groningen almost single-handedly to the Europa League playoffs last season as he hit 17 goals in the Eredivisie. He has continued his rapid rise in the ongoing season as well and has hit the right kind of form with four goals in seven matches.

Leeds are very well placed in terms of their financial condition, as they do have a large transfer kitty available, having sold Chris Wood to Burnley and the gaffer would like to disburse the money in a proper way. Can Mahi be a good investment?
