Liverpool continued their scoring run as they once again registered a sensation win against Burnley. After scoring the opener in the second half, the Reds were left devastated thanks to the Burnley equalizer in the final phase of the game. However, Liverpool’s defensive duo combined to score the last-gasp winner to seal all three points for the Reds ahead of their Merseyside Derby next week.
Sadio Mane’s stunning strike for the opener will remain the highlight of the game. While the defeat for Burnley keeps their winless streak alive in the Premier League. The Clarets are now winless in their last five matches, even though they have an impressive four points over eighth-placed Leicester City.
Here are the Liverpool players rated in their extraordinary win over the Clarets.
Simon Mignolet (7/10): The Belgian looked rusty at times with his ball handling while Burnley players were constantly having a go at the goal. However, the former Sunderland keeper wasn’t particularly troubled.
Trent-Alexander Arnold (7.5/10): Was an excellent attacking outlet on the right flank but his defensive qualities are fairly questionable as he made some rash passes and also struggled against the marauding runs of Burnley attackers.
Dejan Lovren (7.5/10): Had a mixed afternoon where he looked rusty when dealing with the sheer physicality of Ashley Barnes but also looked commanding at times. His crucial header in the last minute paved the way for his defensive partner Ragnar Klavan to head home the winner.
Ragnar Klavan (8.5/10): Continued his impressive form when he headed home the winner in the final minute of the game. His goal could prove to be very crucial for Liverpool for the remainder of the season and perhaps even beyond.
Joe Gomez (6.5/10): Looked kind of awful on the left back position, where he was often exposed by the attacking tenacity of Berg Gudmundsson.
Emre Can (8/10): Didn’t seem all too well comfortable dealing with Burnley’s midfield duo but his overall quality helped him prevail as the game wore on.
Georginio Wijnaldum (7.5/10): Worked really hard in the middle third, where he often took care of the loose balls or any kind of marauding runs from the opposing midfielders.
Adam Lallana (7.5/10): Looked very promising whenever he was on the ball. Even though the English International couldn’t make any telling impact, it was still nice to see him back in action.
Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain (8/10): Was a useful outlet in the attacking department where he worked hard to make chances for himself. However, one would expect far more consistent performances from the former Arsenal man.
Dominic Solanke (7/10): Really struggled to make an impact on the proceedings as his poor touches, lack of clever movements and awful positioning often denied him the chance to impress. He may not be ready for Premier League action at this point in time.
Sadio Mane (9/10): Didn’t have much influence on the game in the first half where he lacked support from his teammates. However, his dynamism coupled with his tenacity helped him come out all guns blazing in the second half. His stunning strike opened the scoring as well as break the shackles of a very disciplined Burnley backline.
Substitutes
Roberto Firmino (6.5/10): Was introduced in place of Sadio Mane for the final phase of the game. Unfortunately, the Brazilian sensation wasn’t able to instil his influence on the game.
James Milner (NA): Replaced Adam Lallana for the final few minutes as Jurgen Klopp looked to provide more freshness to his side.
Joel Matip (NA): Was subbed on for Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain shortly after the winner, in an attempt to kill off some time.
