Burnley defender Ben Mee could be the subject of interests from West Bromwich Albion. Alan Pardew’s side hasn’t registered a single win since their 1-0 win over Burnley in August and need some serious influence in turning their fortunes.
West Brom defender Jonny Evans has been attracting interests from a number of clubs with the likes of Manchester City and Leicester City all desperate for him. The Baggies managed to keep the player at the club in the summer but Pep Guardiola is likely to raid them for a second time in January and it would be increasingly difficult for Pardew to resist yet again.
Should he leave, Baggies will reportedly try to bring Ben Mee from Turf Moor as a part of their contingency plan. The 28-year old’s rise to the front has been a fairytale story and he has been a one-man army in the Clarets backline recently.
Despite the departure of Michael Keane in the summer, Sean Dyche hasn’t faced many problems and it’s mainly due to Mee’s monumental presence in the side. Burnley have made an exceptional start to the season and it remains to be seen whether Dyche sanctions Mee’s departure or vows to fight for him.
Evans is likely to command a fee in the range of £30m, which would leave the Baggies with a pile of cash and they will look to disburse it in a more secure way. Burnley are also interested in a move for West Brom winger James McClean so the Baggies could use this opportunity to sweeten the deal.
Burnley saw their effort dashed in the summer but now might embrace this chance to revive their interest in the player. The Clarets have lost Robbie Brady to a knee injury and looking at its severity, he might not feature again in this season. So Dyche wants to bring the winger as a cautious step.
Evans has been the backbone of the Baggies defence and since arriving from Manchester United, he has displayed a pretty consistent form for the Baggies. His quality has soared in the past few seasons and it becomes very clear when a gaffer like Guardiola is vying for his services.
West Brom are destined to lose Evans and it would be interesting to see how thing sums up in the next month. If both the deals go through, it would be pretty satisfying for both the parties.
