In a recent report, The Guardian claimed that West Ham United have identified Fulham star Joao Palhinha as a target for the upcoming transfer window. It is understood that the Hammers are hoping to move in for the Portuguese midfielder this summer.
Palhinha’s Impressive Run Of Form In English Football
Palhinha has enjoyed a solid campaign at Craven Cottage as he managed to put in a run of impressive performances at the centre of Fulham’s midfield. The 27-year-old has scored four goals in 40 matches for the Cottagers this season across various competitions.
The Portuguese talent has anchored the midfield with conviction based on his average of 4.2 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 1.7 clearances and 1.1 shots per game in Premier League football. He has even taken care of the ball when distributing possession from midfield as evidenced by his pass success rate of 83% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the London club will run out in 2027. Hence, the Hammers will have to pay a big fee if they want to convince Fulham to part ways with their prized asset.
What Will Palhinha Add To West Ham United David Moyes’ Side?
Palhinha is a tough-tackling midfielder who can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and can shoot it with power and accuracy from long range. The Portuguese sensation is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also function as a central defender if told to do so.
We can expect Palhinha to add more quality to West Ham head coach David Moyes’ midfield. He could even prove himself to be a decent replacement for Declan Rice who is expected to leave the East London club this summer.
At 27, Palhinha is about to enter his prime, so Moyes can expect to get the best of him at the London Stadium in the coming seasons. He already knows the Premier League well by now and won’t take much time to settle into life at West Ham. Furthermore, Palhinha could help the Hammers challenge for more trophies in the not-too-distant future.
