In a recent tweet, journalist Rudy Galetti revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are showing interest in Brentford keeper David Raya. It has been claimed that Spurs are in talks to bring the Spanish custodian to North London this summer.
🚨🔥 David #Raya, to date the only club in talks with #Brentford is #Tottenham.
🗣️ #THFC shown the most interest in the 🇪🇦 GK so far: they are trying to lower the request of #BFC (around €45/50m), leveraging on his final year of the contract. 🐓⚽ #Transfers https://t.co/9CB48yVMFe pic.twitter.com/y7JuTunby6

Raya’s Solid Campaign In English Football
Raya enjoyed a decent campaign with the Bees as he produced a series of impressive displays in goal for them in the Premier League. The Spaniard managed to secure 12 clean sheets and conceded 47 goals in 39 appearances for Brentford this season on all fronts.
The 27-year-old has done well to average 0.5 clearances and 10.8 long balls per 90 minutes in Premier League football. However, he needs to take care of the ball a bit better when distributing it from the back, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 60.7% in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at the Gtech Community Arena will run out in the summer of 2024. Hence, Tottenham could potentially land him on the cheap in this off-season.
Is Raya A Decent Option For Tottenham Hotspur?
Raya can be a safe pair of hands in between the sticks when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. He usually clears the danger when needed and is a solid handler of the ball.
More importantly, the Spanish goalie has got decent reflexes that help him pull off some crucial saves for his side. However, he has to find a way to improve his passing accuracy if he wants to be a success story at a top club like Tottenham in the future.
At 27, Raya is about to enter his prime and has what it takes to make an instant impact at the North London club next season. He would also serve as an ideal successor to Hugo Lloris, who has entered the twilight years of his playing career at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
We can expect Raya to enhance the quality of Spurs boss Angelos Postecoglou’s first XI and help the London club make a top-four push in the Premier League next season. The Brentford star has already proven his worth as a reliable keeper in the English top flight and won’t take much time to settle into life at the London club.
