In a recent report, The Northern Echo revealed that Newcastle United are keen on recruiting West Ham United skipper Declan Rice. It has been claimed that the Magpies are showing interest in securing the services of the England international during the summer transfer window.

Rice’s Impressive Run Of Form At The London Stadium

Rice has been a consistent performer at the heart of David Moyes’ midfield and recently managed to help West Ham win the UEFA Europa Conference League. The English midfield ace has featured in 50 matches this season, finding the back of the net five times and grabbing four assists across various competitions.

The 24-year-old has been a positive influence in both halves and deserves a ton of credit for averaging 2.1 tackles, 1.7 interceptions, 1.5 clearances, 1.0 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in Premier League football. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball from midfield after completing 88% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the East London club will run out in the summer of 2024. Thus, it makes sense for Newcastle to move in for him in the upcoming transfer window.

Is Rice A Dream Signing For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?

Rice is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and can also engineer some promising chances for others around him in the final third. The English talent is full of energy and running in midfield and can shoot the ball with venom from long range.

Someone with Rice’s skillset will no doubt be an excellent acquisition for the Magpies to pull off this summer. We can expect him to add more bite and steel to Newcastle‘s midfield.

Rice would also help the Tyneside club challenge for some major honours over the next few years. At 24, he is about to enter his prime and has what it takes to make an instant impact at St. James’ Park next season. All in all, the West Ham skipper will be a dream signing for Eddie Howe this summer.
