In a recent print edition, Record mentioned that Everton are facing tough competition for Coventry City forward Viktor Gyokeres. It has been claimed that the Toffees will have to rival Leeds United, West Ham United and Crystal Palace in the race to land the Swedish centre-forward.
Gyokeres’ Impressive Form In The Championship This Season
Gyokeres enjoyed a stellar season with the Sky Blues as he put in a lot of productive displays for them in the final third. The Swedish sensation has found the back of the net 22 times and earned 12 assists in 50 appearances for Coventry this season across all competitions.
The Sweden international has led the line well for the West Midlands club by averaging 2.9 shots, 1.9 key passes and 2.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in the EFL Championship. However, he needs to work on improving his link-up play up top based on his pass completion rate of 68.6% in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Coventry City will expire in the summer of 2024. Hence, the Toffees could potentially land him on the cheap if they can win the race for him in this off-season.
Everton Are Facing Stiff Competition For Gyokeres: Is He Worth The Fight?
Gyokeres excels at creating space for himself to get a few strikes in on-target. He has proven himself to be a decent finisher in the final third this season. The Swedish sensation can also create some good chances for his teammates in the opposition half. He can also make a few clever runs with the ball and has to find a way to improve his passing accuracy up top.
We can expect Gyokeres to add more firepower to Everton boss Sean Dyche’s frontline. He is good enough to challenge Dominic Calvert-Lewin for a regular starting spot at Goodison Park next season.
Therefore, Gyokeres will be well worth the fight, so the Merseyside club should focus on getting a deal done for him during this summer transfer window. However, only time will tell whether he can cope with the physical nature and high intensity of Premier League football if Everton can win the chase for his services.
