Hugo Lloris has acknowledged that Tottenham exhibited a lack of tenacity as they succumbed to a humiliating 6-1 loss to Newcastle at St James’ Park. Within the first 21 minutes, Newcastle raced to a commanding 5-0 lead, with Jacob Murphy and Alexander Isak each scoring twice and Joelinton also finding the net.
Harry Kane scored a consolation goal for Spurs early in the second half, but that was short-lived as substitute Callum Wilson, with his first touch of the game, extended Newcastle’s lead to 6-1.

Hugo Lloris After Totttenham’s Humiliating Defeat
According to Daily Mail, after being substituted at half-time with a hip muscle injury, Lloris acknowledged that the Spurs squad must make amends for their performance. The Tottenham skipper conceded that the team lacked pride and fighting spirit against Newcastle.
“It is very embarrassing; we should apologise to the fans,’ Lloris told Sky Sports. ‘We didn’t show a great face today. We could not match Newcastle’s performance. We were late in all aspects. We completely missed the first part of the game. It is really painful today. It is not talking about tactics; we could not fight.”
Can Tottenham Hotspur Qualify For The Champions League Next Season?
The Lilywhites‘ predicaments were compounded following their loss. Cristian Stellini took over the reins temporarily after Antonio Conte’s departure, and managing director Fabio Paratici stepped down this week due to his failure to have his two-and-a-half-year football ban overturned.
Despite the defeat, Spurs remain in the fifth spot in the Premier League standings but are now six points behind Newcastle and Manchester United in the race for Champions League qualification. It’s noteworthy that Newcastle and Man United have a game in hand over Spurs.
