In a recent report, Foot Mercato stated that Manchester United have held a meeting with AS Monaco defender Axel Disasi’s representatives to recruit him in the summer. It is believed that the Mancunian giants are eyeing a move to secure the services of the French centre-back.
Disasi’s Impressive Season In French Football
The 25-year-old has experienced an impressive season at Monaco as he has continued to perform at a high level for them on the defensive third of the pitch. Disasi has participated in 39 matches for the French club during this campaign, scoring five goals and picking up four assists across various competitions.
The French sensation has been a rock at the back for the French club and deserves a lot of credit for averaging 0.9 tackles, 1.6 interceptions and 3.0 clearances per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He has even been excellent when distributing possession from inside his half after completing 83.7% of his attempted passes in the French first division (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at the Stade Louis-II is set to expire in 2025. Hence, Man United will have to make a good offer if they are serious about bringing Disasi to Old Trafford during this summer transfer window.
What Will Disasi Add To Manchester United Boss Erik Ten Hag’s Side?
Disasi is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger quickly to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and can use his towering 1.90m frame to win his fair share of aerial duels at both ends of the field.
The French talent is even proficient at playing his way out from the back. He is primarily a centre-back but can also fill in as a right-back if asked to do so.
Disasi will no doubt enhance the overall quality of Man United‘s first XI and could help the Red Devils challenge for some top honours over the next few years. With all things considered, the French powerhouse will add more bite and steel to Erik ten Hag’s defensive department and could offer some serious competition for Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez at Old Trafford in the future.
