In a recent interview with The Times, pundit Tony Cascarino urged Chelsea to sign Napoli star Victor Osimhen. Cascarino said,

“Victor Osimhen at Napoli would be perfect for Chelsea. He is a young, dynamic striker in the mould of George Weah.”

Osimhen’s Excellent Form In Italian Football This Season

Osimhen is having a brilliant campaign at Naples as he has managed to produce several match-winning displays as the spearhead of Luciano Spaletti’s attack. The 24-year-old has featured in 29 matches for the Italian club this season, finding the back of the net 25 times and securing five assists in the process across multiple competitions.

The Lagos-born striker has led the line well for the Italian club based on his average of 4.3 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. However, he needs to improve his ball distribution after making 71% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).

Should Chelsea Boss Graham Potter Move In For Osimhen?

Osimhen has proven his worth as a prolific presence in front of the opponent’s goal. He has been very productive with his offensive numbers this season and can also create some meaningful openings for his teammates on the attacking end of the pitch.

The Nigerian sensation is usually quite clever with his runs in and around the opposition penalty box but needs to work on improving his ball distribution up top.

Osimhen can also use his strong 1.86m frame to dominate the opposition defenders in the air. We can expect him to inject more firepower into Graham Potter‘s attack if Chelsea can devise a way to get him on board this summer. At 24, the player’s best years are ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for Potter in the off-season.

Osimhen has what it takes to lead the line for the Blues in the Premier League every week as long as he makes a smooth transition to life in England. With all things considered, the West London club should consider listening to Cascarino’s advice by moving in for the Nigerian forward during the summer transfer window as he could help Chelsea challenge for some major silverware once again in the coming seasons.
