Everton faced off against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium earlier in the day as they looked to redeem themselves from their EFL cup third-round defeat against them. The Toffees made a poor start to the game as they conceded the opening goal in the eighteenth minute when Marcus Tavernier scored for the home team and then Kieffer Moore doubled the lead for the opposition as his header found the back of the net in the 25th minute. Frank Lampard’s men failed to come up with a response and were trailing 2-0 at the half-time break.
The Cherries became more confident of a win after Jaidon Anthony came onto the field in the 67th minute and scored just 2 minutes into the game off Lewis Cook’s beautiful delivery inside the box from a free kick. The contest ended with Everton suffering a humiliating 3-0 defeat again on the road after being knocked out of the EFL Cup last time out.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player performed during the match against the Cherries.
GK: Jordon Pickford – 5.5/10
He won’t be pleased after conceding three goals during the game as he failed to keep the attackers from finding the back of the net in between the sticks.
RB: Nathan Patterson – 5.5/10
The English defender made a few runs down the right flank but looked far from convincing when defending inside his half.
CB: Conor Coady – 6/10
Coady won his fair share of tackles but failed to stop the home side from scoring three times tonight.
CB: James Tarkowski – 6.5/10
Tarkowski earned the ball back a few times and was mostly solid during his time on the field but failed to protect his half.
LB: Victor Mykolenko – 5/10
Mykolenko looked vulnerable at the back and produced a disjointed display tonight before taking a knock in the 29th minute and being replaced.
RCM: Alex Iwobi – 6.5/10
He got stuck in with some solid tackles and made a few decisive passes but couldn’t create clear-cut chances in front of the goal.
CM: Idrissa Gueye – 6/10
Gueye was not shy of a tackle and took one good shot at goal in the second half. He did well to distribute the ball to his teammates.
LCM: Amadou Onana – 6/10
Onana did his fair share of defending but lacked quality in the Bournemouth half although he did make a few dangerous runs down the final third before he was replaced in the 75th minute.
RW: Dwight McNeil – 6/10
McNeil failed to threaten the Bournemouth goal and was substituted in the 75th minute.
ST: Neal Maupay – 6.5/10
Maupay came back to defend when needed but posed very little threat in front of the goal before being replaced in the 74th minute.
LW: Demarai Gray – 6/10
Gray did very little to attack the opposition, often being caught by the defenders and not being able to convert the chances created by his teammates.
Substitutes:
LB: Seamus Coleman – 6/10
Coleman replaced Mykolenko in the 29th minute as he was called in early into the game but he failed to keep the opposition from scoring as well.
ST: Thomas Cannon – N/A
He didn’t get enough time to influence the game as he replaced Maupay in the 74th minute.
LW: Anthony Gordon – N/A
Gordon was brought on to change the attacking scenarios but the Toffees still lacked the productivity to create a chance.
LW: Abdoulaye Doucoure – N/A
Doucoure was brought on to provide defensive cover to shield the back four so that the Cherries do not add to the scoreline.
