Everton clashed heads with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium earlier today as they hoped to grind out a result on the road. The Toffees managed to keep themselves in the game for the majority of the first half but ended up conceding the opening goal in the 44th minute when Raheem Sterling found the back of the net with a clinical finish. Rafael Benitez’s men went into the half-time break 1-0 down on the scoreline.
Rodri doubled the home team’s advantage just ten minutes into the second half with an excellent strike from 25 yards out. Bernardo Silva put the icing on the cake for the Mancunian giants when he scored in the 86th minute from close range as the Toffees ended up being beaten by a convincing 3-0 scoreline.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player performed during the clash against Man City.
GK: Jordan Pickford – 5.5/10
The English keeper made a few solid saves but looked shaky at the back and ended up conceding three goals today. His ball distribution was woeful as well.
RB: Seamus Coleman – 6/10
He worked hard to stop some of the Man City attacks inside his half but failed to make any meaningful impact at the other end.
CB: Ben Godfrey – 6/10
Godfrey made some solid tackles and managed to secure the ball back a couple of times for his team. However, he won’t be pleased after letting in three goals during the game.
CB: Michael Keane – 6.5/10
The Everton centre-back made a handful of important clearances to come to his side’s rescue but was left far too exposed at the back.
LB: Lucas Digne – 6/10
The Frenchman was always willing to go in with a tackle but struggled to make an impact in the final third.
RM: Anthony Gordon – 6/10
Gordon tried his best to help his teammates out at the back and put in an energetic shift down the right flank.
CM: Fabian Delph – 5.5/10
He struggled to get a foothold in the game and got replaced after the hour mark.
CM: Allan – 6/10
The Brazilian midfield ace won the ball back a couple of times but couldn’t stop the opposition from scoring thrice.
LM: Demarai Gray – 6/10
Gray was forced off in the 16th minute with an injury.
CAM: Andros Townsend – 7/10
Townsend caused a lot of headaches for the Man City defenders due to his excellent dribbling with the ball. He even created a couple of decent chances for others around him.
ST: Richarlison – 5/10
The Brazilian striker found himself isolated for most of the game and got booked for a rash challenge. He didn’t get a sniff at goal.
Substitutes:
LM: Alex Iwobi – 6.5/10
Iwobi made some encouraging runs with the ball but never looked like he would score.
ST: Salomon Rondon – 6/10
He offered very little after coming off the bench.
CM: Tyler Onyango – N/A
The 18-year-old hardly had any time to influence the game.
