Uruguayan international Diego Laxalt shot into limelight after impressive displays in the World Cup in Russia. The midfielder turned defender currently plies his trade for Italian outfit Genoa and a good World Cup has made the 25-year-old a target for some of the clubs in the transfer market. Bournemouth are one of the teams who have shown an interest in signing the player.
It’s being reported that the defender will be worth £18m and it will be interesting to see whether the Cherries will pay such an amount for a player who is not yet tested in the Premier League. However, from the pieces of evidence shown in the World Cup by the player, he looks like he will be able to give a good account of himself in one of the toughest leagues of the world.
Laxalt was a crucial player as the Uruguayans reached the quarterfinals defeating the much fancied European Champions, Portugal in the Round of 16. The defender went toe to toe with one of the best players in the world in Cristiano Ronaldo and came out on top more often than not as his team were victorious. At Genoa, he usually plays in a more advanced role down the left so he can be even used as an attacking option by Eddie Howe.
The Cherries have continued to grow in confidence as they have slowly established themselves as a regular Premier League outfit. However, their gaffer Howe will be aware that the challenges will keep on increasing as he continues his team’s rise in English football.
Charlie Daniels is the usual option down the left side of defence for Bournemouth and bringing in Laxalt will definitely bring more competition for places and will add depth to the squad. Laxalt’s attacking prowess will also come in handy as he packs a decent punch with his left foot.
Laxalt has spent three years with Italian giants Inter Milan, however, he failed to establish himself there and spent most of his time on loan spells. He impressed for Genoa and later he was snapped up by the Italian club on a permanent basis.

Along with the Cherries, other Premier League clubs are also in the race to sign him so Eddie Howe will have to move in quick if he wants to acquire his target. The 25-year-old reads the game well and is often strong and decisive in his challenges. Adding him to the squad will also add to the versatility of the team as he can play in a defensive as well as in an attacking role.
