Manchester United Are Ready To Step Up Their Efforts To Sign This Talented Midfielder: Good Fit For Carrick?

Last updated on: April 17, 2026

In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Manchester United are ready to step up their efforts to sign Benfica midfielder Richard Rios. It has been claimed that the Red Devils are eyeing a move to bring the Colombian talent to Old Trafford this off-season.

Rios’ Impressive Form In Portuguese Football

Rios is having a solid campaign in Portugal as he has put in a run of impressive displays for Benfica in the middle of the park. The 25-year-old has found the back of the net five times and picked up five assists in 41 matches for the Portuguese outfit this season across various competitions.

The Colombian talent is currently among the best holding midfielders in Liga Portugal. Thus, it is no surprise that Man United are keen on signing him in this summer transfer period.

His current contract at the Portuguese club will run out in the summer of 2030, which could make it tough for the Red Devils to land him on the cheap later this year.

Will Rios Be A Good Fit For Manchester United?

Rios is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and is a tidy passer as well.

The Colombian talent can contribute by scoring and creating his fair share of goals from midfield. Rios is primarily a holding midfielder but can also play as a box-to-box midfielder if told to do so by his manager. However, it remains to be seen whether he can cope with the high intensity of the Premier League if the Red Devils manage to snap him up this off-season.

We can expect Rios to add more quality and depth to Man United boss Michael Carrick’s midfield. He is good enough to challenge for a regular first-team spot at the Mancunian club in the coming seasons.

At 25, Rios has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a good fit for Man United’s needs in the long run. However, Carrick has to give him some time to adjust to life at Old Trafford before he can get the best out of the player.
