In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo stated that Newcastle United are among the clubs hoping to land Getafe playmaker Christantus Uche. It has been claimed that the Magpies would face competition in the form of Bournemouth and Aston Villa in the race to sign the Nigerian attacker next year.
Uche’s Recent Form In La Liga
Uche has caught the eye at times for Getafe but has struggled to be consistent for Getafe during this La Liga campaign. The 21-year-old has scored one goal in 11 appearances for the Spanish club this season in multiple competitions.
The Nigerian talent has been a good performer in the opponent’s half as he is averaging 1.3 shots, 0.7 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per game in La Liga. However, he needs to find a way to improve his ball distribution on the offensive end of the field based on his pass completion rate of 72.2% in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
Uche is under contract at the Spanish club until the summer of 2028 which could make it tough for the Magpies to get a deal done for him on the cheap next year.
Is Uche A Good Fit For Newcastle United?
Uche can make some driving runs with the ball in the final third and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in and around the opponent’s penalty area. He can even strike the ball with power from long range. Standing at 1.90m, Uche is a strong presence in the air as well.
However, the Nigerian playmaker has to find a way to improve his link-up play and add more goals to his game if he wants to succeed as a footballer. Furthermore, there are some concerns over whether he can adapt to the physical style and high intensity of the Premier League if the Magpies manage to snap him up next year.
Uche would add more quality and depth to Newcastle boss Eddie Howe’s frontline. He is good enough to serve as a decent, rotational piece in the Tyneside club‘s squad in the coming seasons.
At 21, Uche has the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. Therefore, he would be a great fit for Newcastle‘s needs in the long run.
