In the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, journalist Pete O’Rourke mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are in the running to recruit Lille forward Jonathan David this summer. It has been stated that Spurs could join the race to acquire the services of the Canadian striker this off-season.
David’s Impressive Form In French Football
David managed to put in a series of impressive performances as the focal point of Lille’s attack in the previous campaign. The Canada international participated in 47 matches for the French outfit last season, scoring 26 times and securing nine assists across all fronts.
The 24-year-old led the line well for Lille based on his average of 2.3 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game in Ligue 1. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 82.7% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the French club will expire at the end of next season which could open the door for Tottenham to get a cut-price deal later this year.
Is David A Good Option For Tottenham Hotspur?
David excels at finding a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to engineer a few promising chances for his teammates in the final third and can make some dangerous runs with the ball in the opponent’s half.
The Canada international has proven himself to be a lethal finisher in front of the opponent’s goal. However, he might need some time to adjust to the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football.
We can expect David to bring more firepower to Tottenham Hotspur boss Angelos Postecoglu’s attack. The Canadian talent has what it takes to nail down a regular first-team spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the coming years.
At 24, David has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a decent option for Spurs to consider in this transfer window. He might even help the London giants challenge across all competitions in the future. Therefore, Postecoglu would be wise to go all out to get him on board before the start of the new season.
