In a recent report, The Sun’s Alan Nixon mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are facing tough competition for PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko this summer. It is believed that Spurs will have to rival Newcastle United in the race to land the Belgian talent before the end of this month.

Bakayoko’s Impressive Form In The Eredivisie Last Season

Bakayoko had a decent campaign at the Dutch club recently as he was responsible for putting in a series of impressive displays for them on the attacking third of the pitch. The Belgian sensation registered nine goals and six assists in 39 appearances for his current employers last season across multiple competitions.

The 20-year-old was a reliable performer in the opposition half based on his average of 2.0 shots, 1.1 key passes and 2.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Dutch Eredivisie. He was even excellent when distributing the ball in the final third based on his pass completion rate of 83.1% in the Dutch first division (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the Dutch club will run out in the summer of 2026. Hence, it won’t be easy for Spurs to sign him on a cut-price deal during this summer transfer period.

Tottenham Hotspur Are Facing Stiff Competition For Bakayoko: Is He Worth The Fight?

Bakayoko is a decent dribbler with the ball and can make a few promising runs with the ball out on the flanks. He can create some inviting chances for others around him in the final third and can shoot the ball with venom from long range. The Belgian talent is primarily a right-winger but can also fill in as a left-sided wide player if asked to do so.

We can expect Bakayoko to inject more firepower into Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s attack. He might even help Spurs compete for European football in this Premier League campaign.

Hence, Bakayoko will be well worth the fight, so the North London club would be wise to go all out to snap him up before the end of this transfer window. At 20, the Belgian wide player has the potential to become a future star at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as long as he can make a smooth transition to life in England.
