Liverpool faced off against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park earlier today as they looked to earn a positive result on the road in the Premier League. The Reds made a slow start to the game and conceded the opening goal in the 29th minute when Anthony Gordon scored with a good finish. Virgil Van Dijk was sent off by the referee in the 28th minute which left Liverpool with a mountain to climb. However, Jurgen Klopp‘s men stayed in the game and managed to get to the half-time break 1-0 down on the scoreline.

The Merseyside club rode their luck at times in the second half and managed to equalise in the 81st minute when Darwin Nunez found the back of the net with a great finish. Nunez ended up netting a dramatic winner in injury-time with another excellent strike which won the game for Liverpool. The contest ended with the Merseyside club earning a brilliant 2-1 win away at Tyneside.

Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player performed during the clash against the Magpies.

GK: Alisson Becker – 9/10

The Brazilian keeper made a handful of excellent saves at the back and did enough to limit the opposition to just one goal.

RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7/10

He made a costly error in the lead-up’s goal. However, his ball distribution was sublime as usual, especially in the second half.

CB: Joel Matip – 6.5/10

Matip kept things solid at the back for most of the game and won a couple of aerial duels.

CB: Virgil Van Dijk – 4/10

The Dutch talent let his teammates down by getting sent off in the 28th minute.

He had a couple of bright moments in the game but was replaced in the 57th minute.
