Liverpool faced off against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park earlier today as they looked to earn a positive result on the road in the Premier League. The Reds made a slow start to the game and conceded the opening goal in the 29th minute when Anthony Gordon scored with a good finish. Virgil Van Dijk was sent off by the referee in the 28th minute which left Liverpool with a mountain to climb. However, Jurgen Klopp‘s men stayed in the game and managed to get to the half-time break 1-0 down on the scoreline.
The Merseyside club rode their luck at times in the second half and managed to equalise in the 81st minute when Darwin Nunez found the back of the net with a great finish. Nunez ended up netting a dramatic winner in injury-time with another excellent strike which won the game for Liverpool. The contest ended with the Merseyside club earning a brilliant 2-1 win away at Tyneside.

GK: Alisson Becker – 9/10
The Brazilian keeper made a handful of excellent saves at the back and did enough to limit the opposition to just one goal.
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7/10
He made a costly error in the lead-up’s goal. However, his ball distribution was sublime as usual, especially in the second half.
CB: Joel Matip – 6.5/10
Matip kept things solid at the back for most of the game and won a couple of aerial duels.
CB: Virgil Van Dijk – 4/10
The Dutch talent let his teammates down by getting sent off in the 28th minute.
LB: Andrew Robertson – 6.5/10
Robertson was full of energy and running throughout the game and managed to create one good chance in the final third.
CM: Dominik Szoboszlai – 7/10
He came back to defend when required and managed to cause a few headaches for the opposition defenders.
CM: Wataru Endo – 6.5/10
Endo anchored the midfield well at times but could last only 57 minutes.
CM: Alexis Mac Allister – 7/10
He made a few crucial interceptions for Liverpool at the centre of the park.
RW: Mohamed Salah – 7.5/10
Salah played a risky pass which led to Alexander-Arnold’s error in the lead-up to Gordon’s opening goal. However, he did let his head go down and picked up an assist for setting up Nunez’s match-winner.
ST: Cody Gakpo – 6.5/10
He had a couple of bright moments in the game but was replaced in the 57th minute.
LW: Luis Diaz – 6/10
Diaz began the game well but had to be substituted in the 32nd minute due to Van Dijk’s first-half red card.
Substitutes:
CB: Joe Gomez – 7/10
He produced a dominant defensive display after coming on in the first half.
CM: Harvey Elliott – 6/10
Elliott added more energy to Klopp’s midfield.
ST: Diogo Jota – 6.5/10
He made one key chance in the final third.
ST: Darwin Nunez – 9/10
Nunez came off the bench and scored two goals with two great strikes which won the game for Liverpool.
CB: Jarell Quansah – 6.5/10
He was a solid presence at the back.
