Lisandro Martinez is a professional footballer who operates as a central defender for Manchester United and the Argentina national team. He managed to prove his worth as a reliable performer at the heart of Man United‘s back during the 2022-23 Premier League campaign.

What Injury Did Lisandro Martinez Suffer?

Martinez recently picked up a serious metatarsal injury in his club’s 2-2 draw against Sevilla at Old Trafford in the UEFA Europa League. His injury could now sideline him for the remainder of this Premier League season which will be a bitter pill to swallow for Erik ten Hag’s side as they are still competing across three different competitions.

The 25-year-old is having an excellent season at the Theatre of Dreams as he has produced a series of dominant performances at the centre of ten Hag’s defence. As of 18 April 2023, Martinez featured in 45 matches for the Mancunian giants during this campaign, scoring one goal on all fronts.

The Argentine sensation gave a good account of himself by averaging 2.0 shots, 1.2 key passes and 3.6 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from the back after making 87.3% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).

When Will Martinez Return From Injury?

Martinez is likely to miss the remainder of this campaign after picking up a serious metatarsal injury against Sevilla recently.

On social media, Martinez vowed to come back stronger for the Red Devils. The Argentina international said,

“Not the way I imagined what’s been a very special season would end, but sometimes we face obstacles along the way that we have to overcome to make us stronger and we learn from them.

“I know that I’ll be back very soon to go for more. In the meantime, I’ll continue to support all my team-mates to achieve our objectives.

“The number of messages and support I’ve received has been amazing, they’re giving me strength and encouragement at this moment. Many, many thanks to you all from the bottom of my heart.”

We wish Martinez a speedy recovery.
