Newcastle United entertained Arsenal at St. James’ Park earlier today as they looked to earn a positive result at home in the Premier League. The Magpies made a slow start to the game and conceded the opening goal in the 14th minute when Martin Odegaard got his name on the scoresheet for the visitors. Newcastle failed to come up with a response and were trailing 1-0 at the half-time interval.

Fabian Schar scored an unfortunate own goal for the Tyneside club in the 71st minute as the contest ended with Newcastle suffering a poor 2-0 loss in front of their home fans.

Let’s find out how each Newcastle United player performed during the match against the Gunners.

GK: Nick Pope – 6.5/10

The English keeper made some important stops at the back but still conceded a couple of goals this afternoon.

RB: Kieran Trippier – 7/10

He did his fair share of defending and made some decent chances in the final third.

CB: Fabian Schar – 5.5/10

Schar scored an unfortunate own goal in the second half but was a threat going forward.

CB: Sven Botman – 6.5/10

He tried his best to keep things solid at the back but conceded two poor goals today.

LB: Dan Burn – 6/10

Burn worked hard when defending inside his half and was wasteful with his passing.

CM: Joelinton – 6.5/10

He came back to defend when required and had a couple of bright moments in the Arsenal half.

CM: Bruno Guimaraes – 6/10

Guimaraes had some strikes at goal but produced an uninspiring display at the centre of the park.

CM: Joe Willock – 7/10

The English midfielder was a positive influence at both ends of the field.

RW: Jacob Murphy – 6.5/10

Murphy made one key chance in the final third and was unfortunate to hit the post.

ST: Callum Wilson – 6/10

He struggled to be a potent threat up top and did well to last 77 minutes.

LW: Alexander Isak – 6.5/10

Isak had a few bright moments in the game but didn’t do enough to register a goal.

Substitutes:

RW: Miguel Almiron – 6/10

He offered very little after coming off the bench.

LW: Allan Saint-Maximin – 6.5/10

Saint-Maximin was lively in the final third.

ST: Anthony Gordon – 6/10

He struggled to get into the flow of the game.

CM: Elliot Anderson – N/A

Anderson didn’t get enough time to make an impact.

LB: Matt Targett – N/A
