In a recent report, AS stated that Liverpool are among clubs hoping to land Celta de Vigo playmaker Gabri Veiga. It has been claimed that the Reds will have to rival Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Manchester City and Manchester United in the race to land the Spanish talent this summer.
Veiga’s Impressive Rise In Spanish Football This Season
Veiga is having a great season at the Spanish club as he has produced a run of productive displays for Celta de Vigo in the final third. The Porrino-born talent has found the back of the net on nine occasions and grabbed four assists in 34 matches for his current employers during this campaign across all competitions.
The one-time Spain Under-21 international has caught the eye with his performances in the opponent’s half and has done well to average 1.3 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 1.8 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball after completing 78.4% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Veiga is under contract at Celta de Vigo until the summer of 2026. Hence, the Reds would struggle to sign him on the cheap in the upcoming transfer window.
Should Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp Go Fot Veiga?
Veiga doesn’t mind getting stuck in with some solid tackles and usually works hard for his team in the opposition half. He can strike the ball with venom and accuracy from long range and has got the vision to engineer a few promising chances for his teammates in the final third.
The 20-year-old is a good dribbler with the ball as well and has added some goals and assists to his game. He mainly operates in the number ten position but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so.
We can expect Veiga to bring more goals and creativity to Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp‘s attack. At 20, he is already good enough to fight for a regular starting spot at Anfield and could help the Merseyside club challenge for some major honours over the next decade. Therefore, Klopp would be wise to go for Veiga during the summer transfer window.
