In a recent report, Sport claimed that Barcelona are eyeing a €25m move for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat. It has been mentioned that the Catalan giants are planning to make another move to sign the Morocco international.

Amrabat’s Impressive Form In Italian Football This Season

Amrabat is enjoying a solid campaign at Florence as he has managed to put in a run of dominant displays at the centre of the park. The 26-year-old has been involved in 44 matches for the Italian club this season, picking up one assist in the process on all fronts.

The Moroccan sensation deserves some credit for averaging 1.4 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.6 clearances per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after making 89.7% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at Fiorentina is set to run out in the summer of 2024. Thus, Barca have got a good shot at landing Amrabat on the cheap in this off-season.

What Will Amrabat Bring To Barcelona?

Amrabat is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his side in the middle of the park. He doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and remains an excellent passer of the ball. Amrabat is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also function as a box-to-box midfielder if his manager asks him to do so.

However, the Moroccan talent needs to add a few goals and assists to his game if he wants to be a success story at a top club like Barcelona in the future.

We can expect Amrabat to bring more bite and steel to Xavi’s midfield department if Barca can find a way to get a deal done for him. He would also serve as an ideal successor to Sergio Busquets at the Catalan club in the long run.

At 26, Amrabat has his best years ahead of him which makes him a good choice for Barcelona to consider during this summer transfer period. However, only time will tell whether the 46-time Morocco international can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga football.
