In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo mentioned that Barcelona could face tough competition for Bayern Munich ace Benjamin Pavard. It has been claimed that the Catalan giants will have to rival AC Milan in the race to recruit the France international in the summer.
Pavard’s Impressive Form At The Allianz Arena This Season
The 27-year-old is enjoying another decent campaign at the Munich club after producing a run of solid performances on the right side of their backline. Pavard has registered seven goals and one assist in 38 matches for the Bavarian giants this season across various competitions.
The France international has been a positive influence at both ends of the field as he is averaging 2.4 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 2.5 clearances, 1.1 shots and 0.7 key passes per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after making 89.2% of his attempted passes in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club is set to run out in the summer of 2024. Therefore, Barcelona could potentially sign him on the cheap later this year.
Barcelona Are Facing Tough Competition For Pavard: Is He Worth The Fight?
Pavard is a solid tackler of the ball and can make some timely interceptions for his team on the defensive end of the field. He usually clears the danger when needed and can shoot the ball with power from long range. Pavard is primarily a right-back but can also fill in as a central defender if his manager asks him to do so. The French full-back is a good crosser of the ball as well and can make a few clever runs with the ball on the right flank.
Pavard is good enough to enhance the quality of Barcelona head coach Xavi’s first team. He has what it takes to earn a regular starting spot at the Nou Camp.
At 27, the Frenchman is about to enter his prime and has his best years ahead of him. Hence, he is well worth the fight, so the Catalan club would be wise to try everything they can to win the race to acquire Pavard’s services in this off-season.
