In a recent report, Gazzetta dello Sport revealed that Real Madrid have been offered a chance to land AC Milan star Rafael Leao. It has been mentioned that Jorge Mendes have given Los Blancos a chance to land the Portugal international but they are unlikely to do so.
Leao’s Impressive Record In Italian Football This Season
Leao is enjoying an impressive campaign at San Siro after performing at a high level on the left side of AC Milan’s attack. The former Sporting talent has scored nine goals and picked up ten assists in 32 matches for the Italian club this season across multiple competitions.
The 23-year-old has been a consistent performer for AC Milan in the final third as he is averaging 2.9 shots, 1.6 key passes and 1.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half after making 75.6% of his attempted passes in the Italian top-flight (stats via whoscored).
The gifted winger’s current deal with the Milan outfit is set to run out in 2024. Thus, Los Blancos could potentially land him on the cheap if they decide to move in for him this summer.
What Will Leao Add To Real Madrid Head Coach Carlo Ancelotti’s Side?
Leao has proven his worth as a reliable performer in the final third. He has got the pace to beat his marker off the dribble and make some dangerous runs out on the wide areas. The Portuguese sensation has got the eye to play some killer passes in the opponent’s half and can shoot the ball with power and precision from long range. He mainly operates as a left-sided wide player but can operate as a right-sided wide player or can even fill in as a centre-forward up top if his manager tells him to do so.
We can expect Leao to add more pace and goals to Carlo Ancelotti’s attacking department at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. He could even offer some healthy competition for Vinicius Junior at the Madrid club in the coming seasons.
At 23, the future looks quite bright for Leao as long as he continues to improve with each season. Thus, Ancelotti should think about changing his stance by making a big-money move for the Portuguese talent when the transfer window commences later this year. However, only time will tell whether Leao can maintain his good goal-scoring numbers in La Liga.
