In a recent column on Football Insider, journalist Pete O’Rourke mentioned that Newcastle United are keeping tabs on Sheffield United forward Iliman Ndiaye. It has been claimed that the Magpies are eyeing a move to land the Senegalese attacker in the summer.

Ndiaye’s Impressive Numbers At Bramall Lane This Season

Ndiaye is experiencing a decent campaign in the English Championship as he has put in a handful of impressive displays for the Blades in the final third. The 23-year-old has found the back of the net on 12 occasions and secured eight assists in 40 matches for Sheffield this season across multiple competitions.

The Rouen-born talent has given a good account of himself in the opponent’s half based on his average of 1.6 shots, 1.0 key passes and 2.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in the EFL Championship. He has even been accurate when interchanging possession with his teammates after making 81.4% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at Bramall Lane is set to run out in the summer of 2024. Thus, the Magpies could potentially land him on the cheap at the end of this season.

Is Ndiaye A Decent Option For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?

Ndiaye can create space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He can even strike the ball with venom and precision from long range and has got the vision to orchestrate a few promising chances for his teammates in the final third. Ndiaye usually operates as a secondary striker but can also function as a centre-forward or play in the number ten position if asked to do so.

The Senegalese sensation can even make a few dangerous runs with the ball in the opponent’s half and also works hard for his side defensively when needed. Hence, he will be a good fit for Eddie Howe’s style of play at Newcastle United as long as he can make a smooth transition to life in Premier League football.

We can expect Ndiaye to bring more goals and creativity to the Tyneside club‘s attack and help them challenge for a top-four place once again in the English top-flight next season. At 23, the Senegalese talent has still got a lot of room for improvement and has got what it takes to be a success story at St. James’ Park in the long run. All in all, Ndiaye will be a great option for the Magpies to consider this summer.
