Liverpool locked horns with Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium earlier tonight as they hoped to earn a positive result on the road in the UEFA Champions League. The Reds made a solid start to the game and managed to get to the half-time interval with a 0-0 scoreline.

The Merseyside club struggled to get a foothold in the game and conceded the opening goal in the 78th minute when Karim Benzema found the back of the net. Jurgen Klopp‘s men ended up losing the contest 1-0 on the night and 6-2 on aggregate which knocked them out of the Champions League.

Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player fared during the match against Los Blancos.

GK: Alisson Becker – 7.5/10

The Brazilian keeper made a lot of crucial saves at the back but will be disappointed after conceding a late goal.

RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 5.5/10

He failed to cope with Vinicius Jr.’s threat on the flanks and produced an underwhelming display in the opponent’s half.

CB: Ibrahima Konate – 7/10

Konate covered for his teammates well and kept the Madrid attackers frustrated for most of the game.

CB: Virgil Van Dijk – 6.5/10

He dealt with the danger for most of the game but should have done better to prevent Benzema’s match-winner in the second half.

LB: Andrew Robertson – 6/10

He struggled to get into the rhythm of the game and produced a lackluster display at left-back.

CM: Cody Gakpo – 7/10

Gakpo was always willing to get on the ball and make things happen for Liverpool. However, he failed to threaten the Real Madrid goal.

CM: Fabinho – 7/10

He anchored the midfield with conviction and was accurate with his passing.

CM: James Milner – 7/10

Milner used his experience relatively well at the centre of the park but could last only 72 minutes.

RW: Mohamed Salah – 6.5/10

Salah had some moments of joy but was often outnumbered by the opposition defenders.

ST: Diogo Jota – 6/10

He lacked quality on the ball and wasted some decent chances to score.

LW: Darwin Nunez – 7/10

Nunez came close to scoring twice but couldn’t manage to beat Thibaut Courtois tonight.

Substitutes:

ST: Roberto Firmino – 6/10

Firmino had one bright moment after coming off the bench.

CM: Harvey Elliott – 6.5/10

He was lively after coming on as a substitute.

CM: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 6/10

He failed to influence the match.

LB: Kostas Tsimikas – N/A

Tsimikas came on for the final few minutes of the game.

LW: Fabio Carvalho – N/A

He hardly had any time to make an impact.
