In a recent report, Fichajes stated that Barcelona are keen on signing Girona midfielder Aleix Garcia. It has been mentioned that the Catalan giants are eager to recruit the Spanish midfield ace on a free transfer in the summer.

Garcia’s Impressive Run Of Form At The Estadi Montilivi

Garcia is having a decent campaign in Spanish football after he put in a run of eye-catching displays at the centre of Girona’s midfield. The one-time Spain Under-21 international has found the back of the net once and picked up six assists in 27 appearances for the Spanish club this season across various competitions.

The Ulldecona-born talent has been a reliable performer at the centre of the park as he is averaging 1.3 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 1.1 clearances, 1.2 shots, 2.5 key passes, 2.5 crosses and 0.5 dribbles per game in La Liga. He has even been excellent with his ball distribution after completing 89.3% of his attempted passes in the Spanish first division (stats via whoscored).

Garcia is under contract at Girona until the end of this campaign. Therefore, it is only logical for the Catalan club to offer him a contract when he becomes a free agent later this year.

What Will Garcia Add To Barcelona Boss Xavi’s Side?

Garcia can make a positive impact at both ends of the field. He loves a tackle in the middle of the park and can sense the danger quickly to secure the ball back for his side.

The Spanish sensation usually clears his lines when required and can even shoot the ball well from long range. He has got the vision to create some inviting chances for others around him and can make a few driving runs with the ball from midfield.

Garcia is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also fill in as a defensive midfielder or play in the number ten position if told to do so.

We can expect Garcia to add more quality to Barcelona head coach Xavi‘s match-day squad. He would also serve as an ideal successor to Sergio Busquets, who has entered the final stage of his playing career, at the Nou Camp. Hence, Barca should focus on getting a deal done for him during the summer transfer period.
