In a recent report, Bild (subscription required) stated that Arsenal are set to rival Tottenham Hotspur for Borussia Dortmund ace Julian Brandt. It has been mentioned that the Gunners are eyeing a move to secure the services of the German playmaker in the summer.
Brandt’s Impressive Numbers In German Football This Season
The 26-year-old is having another promising campaign at the German club as he has managed to put in a string of impressive displays for them in the final third. Brandt has found the back of the net on nine occasions and grabbed five assists in 31 appearances for Dortmund this season across various competitions.
The German sensation has been a consistent performer on the attacking end of the field based on his average of 1.2 shots, 2.3 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball in the opposition half after making 83.4% of his attempted passes in the top tier of German football (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at the Signal Iduna Park is set to expire in the summer of 2024. Thus, it won’t be easy for Arsenal to land Brandt on the cheap at the end of this season.
Is Brandt A Good Choice For Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta?
Brandt is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and has got the vision to engineer a few inviting chances for his teammates in the opposition half. He can strike the ball with power and accuracy from long range and is a good passer of the ball as well.
The German talent has caught the eye by scoring and creating his fair share of goals for Dortmund in the final third. He mainly operates in the number ten position for the German giants but can also fill in as a wide player on either flank if his manager tells him to do so.
We can expect Brandt to add more goals and assists to Mikel Arteta‘s frontline at Arsenal. He is good enough to challenge Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard for a regular starting spot at the Emirates Stadium in the coming seasons.
At 26, Brandt is about to enter his prime and has what it takes to make an instant impact at the North London club. Thus, he will be an excellent choice for the Gunners to consider when the transfer window reopens at the end of this campaign.
