In a recent report from Football.London, it was stated that Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Marcus Thuram from Borussia Monchengladbach. It was also mentioned that the Lilywhites are uncertain about the future of their current captain and striker Harry Kane with just 18 months left in his contract at North London, so they’re ready for a transfer tussle over the Bundesliga forward in order to bring in a decent replacement for Kane at the end of this season.
Thuram’s Decent Numbers At Borussia Park This Season
Thuram has put in a series of impressive displays for both his club and country during this campaign. The French talent has caught the eye with his performances at Borussia Park as he has banged in 13 goals and grabbed five assists in 19 appearances for the German club this season across multiple competitions. He has also represented France in the 2022 FIFA World Cup where he managed to pick up two assists des pite coming off the bench in five appearances for his nation helping them reach the finals.
The 25-year-old has proven his worth as a reliable performer by averaging 3.7 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per game in Bundesliga. However, he has to find a way to improve his ball distribution inside the opponent’s half after only making 73.9% of his attempted passes in the German top-flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract with the German club is set to run out at the end of this campaign. Hence, Tottenham could land him on a free transfer at the end of this season unless the German outfit decide to extend his contract.
Decent Fit For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Antonio Conte?
Thuram has got the pace to get in behind the opposition backline and can make some dangerous runs with the ball out on the wide areas. He can create some inviting chances for others around him in the final third and remains a prolific striker of the ball inside the penalty box. Thuram is versatile enough to play anywhere across the frontline. He is primarily a centre-forward but can also fill in as a winger on either flank if required.
The France international has added plenty of goals to his side this season. Hence, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Spurs to pull off at the end of this season.
Thuram will no doubt bring more pace and goals to Conte’s attacking department at North London. He is already good enough to fight for a regular starting spot at the North London club and could help Conte’s side challenge for a few major honours over the coming seasons.
At 25, Thuram will only get better in the foreseeable future and Conte is the right man to unlock his full potential on the pitch. Hence, Tottenham should prioritise signing him when the summer transfer window commences and approach him earlier to reach an agreement.
