According to a report from Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur hold a major advantage over Newcastle United in acquiring James Maddison’s signature with both showing keen interest in bringing him aboard. The Lilywhites are continuing their pursuit of the Leicester City playmaker despite the Foxes denying every proposal that has come their way.

Maddison’s Impressive Campaign For Leicester City So Far This Season

James Maddison is enjoying a solid campaign for the Foxes as he has produced some impressive displays in the attacking third of the field. He has banged in seven goals and created four assists over 13 appearances in the first half of this season.

The 26-year-old has established himself as a key player in the final third after averaging 3.0 shots, 2.4 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game in the Premier League.

He has been tidy with his ball distribution after completing 84.2% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats vai whoscored).

It is known that the English forward’s contract at King Power Stadium expires in the summer of 2024. Hence, it makes sense for Spurs to bring him aboard as they could snap him up over a cut-price deal.

How Do Tottenham Hotspur Hold An Advantage Over Newcastle United?

Maddison has the ability to make some dangerous runs down the right-flank using his pace and excellent ball control. He remains an adept finisher inside the penalty box and can create some meaningful opportunities by setting up his teammates in front of the goal.

The English forward is primarily a right-winger but remains versatile enough to feature anywhere on the right side of the final third. Furthermore, he likes playing behind the strikers and comes short to create space for his teammates making a few decisive passes to set them up with clear-cut goal-scoring chances. Thus, Maddison is a decent fit for Antonio Conte in the attacking department.

The Magpies have acquired Anthony Gordon and they would face difficulties in pursuing Maddison’s signature in the same window in accordance with the fair play rules. This gives Spurs a major advantage over the Tyneside club as they can head straight for the English playmaker without being worried about the regulations.

All things considered, Tottenham can definitely acquire his signature if they offer him a wage increment and promise him enough minutes on the pitch, so they should go all in this transfer market to bring him aboard despite the Foxes asserting that they aren’t willing to sanction his exit.
