According to a recent report from Football.London, Chelsea have been handed a major boost in singing Joao Felix permanently when the striker completes his loan at the end of this season. It has been stated that Atletico Madrid are eyeing a move for Bundesliga forward Marcus Thuram which could lead them to sanction Felix’s exit on a cut-price deal.

Felix’s Campaign In The Spanish Capital Before Being Loaned To Chelsea

Felix experienced an underwhelming campaign at the Wanda Metropolitano after struggling to be consistent with his offensive numbers for them in the first half of this season. The Portugal international only found the back of the net on four occasions and earned three assists over 18 appearances for the Madrid outfit this season in all competitions.

The 23-year-old has caught the eye at times but has made most of his appearances off the bench which could be why he is only averaging 1.6 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game in La Liga. However, he was sloppy when interchanging possession with his teammates in the opponent’s half, based on his pass success rate of 75.8% in the top tier of Spanish football (stats via whoscored).

Should Potter Sign Him Permanently?

Felix can be a decent finisher in front of the opponent’s goal when he is playing regularly and with confidence on the pitch. He can also shoot the ball with power and accuracy from a long range. Felix mainly operates as a centre-forward but can also fill in as a left-sided wide player if required.

The Portuguese sensation has got the vision to set up his teammates with some meaningful chances in the final third. In his debut against Fulham, Felix has shown the Blues what exactly they lacked in the attacking third although he picked up a red card in the same match to serve a three-match suspension. However, he is set to return for this weekend’s clash and the fans can expect him to add more quality to Graham Potter‘s attacking department.

The West London outfit could sign him permanently if he fares well at the end of this season. He has been included in the squad for the Champions League and Potter can make an assessment of whether to make a move in the summer and tie him down for an extended stay at Stamford Bridge.
