In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Ben Jacobs mentioned that Leeds United could move in for Leicester City forward Ayoze Perez before the transfer deadline. When asked about the Whites’ interest in the Spanish talent, Jacobs said,

“I think that one name to keep an eye on, potentially, could be Ayoze Perez.

“He hasn’t done well at Leicester but proved that, if given a run of form, he could be valuable to a Premier League club from his Newcastle days.”

Perez’s Up And Down Season In English Football

Perez has been a sporadic presence in Brendan Rodgers’ squad this season and has struggled to be consistent with his performances for the Foxes in the final third. The 29-year-old has found the back of the net once and picked up one assist in 13 appearances for the East Midlands club during this campaign in various competitions.

The Spanish sensation has made most of his appearances off the bench but has performed well to average 1.0 shots, 1.4 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even distributed the ball relatively well in the opponent’s half after completing 75% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the King Power Stadium is set to run out at the end of this campaign. Thus, it makes sense for Leeds United to arrange a cut-price move for him before the end of this transfer window.

Should Leeds United Boss Jesse Marsch Snap Perez Up?

Perez is a decent dribbler with the ball and can create some inviting chances for others around him on the attacking end of the field. He can shoot the ball with power from long range but has to find a way to be more productive in front of the opposition goal. Perez is primarily a secondary striker but can also play as a centre-forward or as a right-sided wide player if asked to do so.

At the moment, the Spaniard is in dire need of regular first-team starts which Leeds boss Jesse Marsch could offer him at Elland Road.

Perez has got a wealth of experience at the highest level and would no doubt help the Whites push for a top-half finish in the Premier League table this season. Thus, the West Yorkshire club should try everything they can to snap the Leicester City player up before the transfer deadline.
