Portugal face Switzerland at the Lusail Stadium on Tuesday as they aim to make their way into the 2022 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals. The Portuguese players negotiated their way into the knockouts after suffering a 2-1 defeat at the hands of South Korea which helped the latter qualify for the round of sixteen as well. However, they will be looking to bounce back and secure a victory this time around.

Fernando Santos could set his men up in a 4-3-2-1 formation and could make a host of changes to the playing XI for this game. We can expect him to name a strong team as Cristiano Ronaldo and Joao Felix could be named in a two-man strike team.

Diogo Costa will continue to function in goal for the Portugal national team being the first-choice keeper. Ruben Dias will get another chance to impress alongside Pepe as they look to collectively keep the opposition at bay throughout the game.

Diogo Dalot and Joao Cancelo will function as the full-backs on either side hoping to put in a good performance from the wide areas. Both of them would be eager to get forward and create some decent chances for their teammates up top.

Antonio Silva and Raphael Guerreiro will have to settle for a place on the bench as they provide cover for the defensive positions.

Santos’ midfield could be comprised of Bernardo Silva, Ruben Neves and William Carvalho as they look to establish their superiority over the opposition in the middle of the park. The former would take the responsibility of creating decent chances in front of the goal.

Bruno Fernandes will play as an advanced attacking midfielder as he handles the creative workload and hopes to produce an influential display in the attacking third.

Joao Palinha will be named on the bench and might come on to make an impact in the second half if Santos decides to call upon his services.

As mentioned earlier, Cristiano Ronaldo and Joao Felix will pair up to spearhead Portugal’s attack as they fancy their chances of finding the back of the net.

Rafael Leao and Joao Mario will be available for selection on the bench as they await their opportunity to influence the game in the second half if required.
