Pep Guardiola Head Coach of Manchester City

In a recent report from Manchester Evening News, it was mentioned that Pep Guardiola has signed a new contract which extends his stay until 2025 after months of speculation surrounding his future at the Etihad club. It is understood that Guardiola’s previous contract was set to expire at the end of this season but fans are now delighted at the news of a new contract with the Sky Blues.

Guardiola’s Campaign With Manchester City So Far

The Spanish tactician made a stunning start to life in the Premier League guiding Man City in 2016 as he won his first 11 games in charge of them. In the second season, he led them to the Premier League title and the Carabao Cup, smashing records along the road to glory. Furthermore, he was voted as the Premier League manager of the year a second time after guiding City to four more trophies in 2018/19 to become the Club’s most successful boss ever with six trophies in three consecutive seasons.

To add to the glory, the Carabao Cup and the Community Shield were lifted by the Sky Blues in 2019 and the third Premier League title in 2020. The Catalan became the first City boss to take his side to a Champions League final in May 2021. Guardiola’s incredible spell at the Etihad saw him taking the trophy haul to an incredible 10 after he claimed the fourth Premier League crown and reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League last season (stats via Mancity).

Right Decision From The Owners At Abu Dhabi?

Since Guardiola took charge of City in 2016, he has guided the club to four Premier League titles, one FA Cup triumph, four League Cup wins and a first-ever Champions League final. Given the success he has brought to the club, losing him would have been a huge blow to the fans and the players.

The players are currently happy with his involvement; he has a winning mentality and the ability to boost their confidence in the changing room during important games. The Catalan has led his team profoundly and a change in the managerial position could have brought about immense difficulties after Man City established themselves as the number one contender in Europe. The fans have high expectations from the club and are exhilarated by the decision from the owners to extend his contract.

This new deal will see Guardiola in charge at City for almost a decade, a stretch that seemed unimaginable when he arrived at the club. He has ended the speculations as he has happily agreed to a two-year deal with his willingness to stay at the Etihad. There is no doubt about his capabilities and we could expect City to go all in for the UCL trophy this year as that’s the only silverware left for Guardiola to achieve with the Sky Blues.
