Netherlands will clash heads with Senegal at the Al Thumama Stadium on Monday as they look to grab all three points in the opening game of their 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign. The Dutch players managed to secure a hard-fought 1-0 win over Belgium in their last meaningful international game and could fancy their chances of success against a Sadio Mane-less Senegal side.
Louis van Gaal will set his men up in a 5-2-1-2 formation and is expected to name a strong team for this clash. Both Frenkie de Jong and Teun Koopmeiners could get a chance to play from the start of this game for the Netherlands in this World Cup contest.
5-2-1-2 Netherlands Predicted Lineup To Face Senegal
Andries Noppert could get a chance to shine in between the sticks for the Dutch national side this Monday. Jurrien Timber will function along with Virgil Van Dijk and Nathan Ake as they try to keep the Senegal attackers at bay during the game.
Denzel Dumfries will hope to give a good account of himself as the right-back while Daley Blind fills in on the other flank as the left-back. Both of them have to figure out a way to get forward and create some problems for the opposition defenders out on the flanks.
Stefan de Vrij, Matthijs de Ligt and Tyrell Malacia will offer cover for the defensive positions on van Gaal’s bench.
Teun Koopmeiners and Frenkie de Jong will function as the holding midfielders as they focus on offering decent protection for their teammates at the back. De Jong will also be responsible for creating some good plays for others around him.
Cody Gakpo could get the freedom to operate as a free-flowing, attacking midfielder in the Senegal half. He will have to act as a bridge between the midfield and the attack.
Steven Berghuis and Davy Klaassen will be named on the bench and might come on to make an impact in the second 45 minutes if van Gaal opts to call upon their services.
Vincent Janssen and Steven Bergwijn could get a chance to lead the charge for the Netherlands this Monday. Both of them will have to link up with each other well so that they can cause a few headaches for the Senegal centre-backs during the 90 minutes.
Luuk de Jong and Memphis Depay will have to settle for a spot on the bench as they wait for their chance to shine in the second 45 minutes if required.
