Real Madrid welcomed Shakhtar Donetsk at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium earlier tonight as they looked to earn a positive result at home in the UEFA Champions League. Los Blancos made a quick start to the game and opened the goal-scoring in the 13th minute when Rodrygo scored with a tidy finish. Vinicius Junior doubled his side’s lead just 15 minutes later with a calm finish. Oleksandr Zubkov got a goal back for Shakhtar in the 39th minute as Real Madrid went into the half-time interval 2-1 up on the scoreline.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men managed the game well in the second half and earned a narrow 2-1 victory in the Spanish capital.

Let’s take a look at how each Real Madrid player performed during the clash against Shakhtar Donetsk.

GK: Andriy Lunin – 6.5/10

The talented keeper made a couple of solid saves at the back but didn’t do enough to keep a clean sheet.

RB: Dani Carvajal – 6.5/10

He made a couple of solid defensive contributions and was strong in the air.

CB: Eder Militao – 7/10

The Brazilian sensation won a lot of aerial duels and gave a good account of himself on the defensive end of the field.

CB: David Alaba – 8/10

Alaba did his fair share of defending and made some excellent chances in the final third.

LB: Ferland Mendy – 6.5/10

He tried his best to keep things solid inside his half and had a couple of lively moments going forward.

CM: Federico Valverde – 8/10

Valverde caused all sorts of problems for the opposition defenders. He made plenty of decent chances for others around him and was a real goal-threat from midfield.

CM: Aurelien Tchouameni – 7/10

He didn’t have to do too much defending and was a threat in the final third.

CM: Toni Kroos – 7/10

The German international engineered some inviting chances for his teammates in the opponent’s half.

RW: Rodrygo – 9/10

Rodrygo caused all kinds of headaches for the opposition and deserves credit for opening the goal-scoring in the 13th minute.

ST: Karim Benzema – 7.5/10

The Frenchman was quite creative with his passing and did everything but score tonight.

LW: Vinicius Junior – 8.5/10

The Brazil international showed a lot of promising signs in and around the opponent’s penalty box and scored the decisive second goal for Real Madrid just before the half-hour mark.

Substitutes:

CM: Eduardo Camavinga – 6/10

He added some energy to Ancelotti’s midfield.

RW: Marco Asensio – 6/10

The Spanish talent offered very little after coming on in the 79th minute.
