Liverpool welcomed Rangers at Anfield earlier tonight as they looked to earn a good result at home in the UEFA Champions League. The Reds made a quick start to the game and scored the opening goal in the seventh minute when Trent Alexander-Arnold found the back of the net with a brilliant free-kick. The home team controlled the game well and went into the half-time break 1-0 up on the scoreline.

Mohamed Salah scored Liverpool’s second goal from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute. Jurgen Klopp’s men sat on their lead well and earned an impressive 2-0 win in front of the Kop.

Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player performed during the contest against Rangers.

GK: Alisson Becker – 7/10

The Brazilian keeper made a couple of decent stops during the game and secured a rare clean sheet at home.

RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 8.5/10

The English full-back performed his defensive duties well and deserves credit for scoring the opener with a superb free-kick. He was the man of the match for Liverpool tonight.

CB: Joel Matip – 7/10

Matip was strong in the air and did enough work defensively to restrict the visitors from scoring.

CB: Virgil Van Dijk – 7/10

The Dutch defender passed the ball well and would be quite pleased with the clean sheet tonight.

LB: Kostas Tsimikas – 8/10

The Greek full-back was always willing to get forward and deliver some inviting crosses into the opponent’s penalty box. He made a brilliant goal-line clearance late in the game to keep Liverpool’s clean sheet intact.

CM: Jordan Henderson – 7/10

The Liverpool captain controlled the game well from midfield and produced a solid display during his time on the field.

CM: Thiago Alcantara – 7/10

The Spaniard passed the ball with conviction as usual and was in complete cruise control for most of the contest.

RW: Mohamed Salah – 7/10

Salah was always willing to take on his marker and stepped up to score the crucial penalty which gave the Reds some cushion in the second half.

CAM: Diogo Jota – 7/10

The Portugal international was quite clever with his movements and went close to scoring but was denied by a world-class save from Allan McGregor.

LW: Luis Diaz – 7/10

Diaz began the game well and completed some dangerous dribbles in the final third. He earned the penalty which Salah scored to put Liverpool 2-0 up on the night.

ST: Darwin Nunez – 6.5/10

He made some decent runs in behind the Rangers backline but failed to finish off any of his chances.

Substitutes:

CAM: Roberto Firmino – 6/10

The Brazilian linked up play well with others around him.

CM: Fabinho – 6/10

He added some bite and steel to Klopp’s midfield.

CM: Harvey Elliott – 6/10

Elliott struggled to get into the flow of the game.

CM: James Milner – 6/10

He helped Liverpool get over the line with the clean sheet in the bag.

RB: Joe Gomez – N/A

Gomez didn’t get enough minutes to warrant a rating.
