The 2022 FIFA World Cup is set to take place in Qatar next month as 32 of the best teams in world football fight it out to see who comes out on top and gets crowned as the new world champions.
There have been a total of 22 editions of the World Cup. The experienced nations have often done well in the prestigious competition, so let’s take a look at the top five countries with the most World Cup appearances under their belt.
1. Brazil
Brazil is currently the most experienced nation in World Cup football, having taken part in all 22 editions of the FIFA competition. They have qualified for every World Cup tournament thus far since its debut back in 1930.
The South American country has also won the World Cup five times (1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, 2002) which is the most in history.
Brazil head coach Tite will now look to engineer another triumph when the 2022 FIFA World Cup gets underway on November 20, 2022.
2. Germany
Germany has qualified for 20 of the 22 World Cup competitions held so far. They are the second-most experienced country in World Cup football and have won the famous trophy four times (1954, 1974, 1990, 2014) in their history.
Germany manager Hansi Flick will be optimistic about his players doing well in this year’s World Cup so that they can tie Brazil in the wins column by winning it for the fifth time.
3. Argentina
Argentina has participated in 18 different World Cup competitions which is the second-most by a South American nation. They won the trophy twice in 1978 and later, in 1986.
The Argentina national team are currently enjoying an active streak of qualifying for 13 consecutive World Cup tournaments and would fancy their chances of winning it all again in Qatar come December.
4. Italy
Italy has taken part in 18 World Cup tournaments so far but failed to qualify for the last edition of the FIFA competition which was held in Russia.
The Italians have also been crowned as the world champions four times so far (1934, 1938, 1982, 2006).
Italy manager Roberto Mancini will now try to mastermind another World Cup win as the European nation makes their return to the grandest stage of world football.
5. Mexico
Mexico has qualified for 17 of the 22 World Cup competitions that have taken place over the years. However, they are yet to taste success in the tournament.
Still, the Mexicans have every reason to be proud of what they have achieved in World Cup football after making two quarter-final appearances in 1970 and 1986 respectively.
