Manchester United welcomed Liverpool at Old Trafford earlier tonight as they focused on grinding out a good result at home. The Red Devils made a good start to the game and got their noses ahead in the 16th minute when Jadon Sancho found the back of the net with a tidy finish. The home team defended their narrow advantage well and went into the half-time interval 1-0 up on the scoreline.

Marcus Rashford scored a decent breakaway goal early in the second half to put Man United 2-0 up on the night. Liverpool scored a late consolation goal via Mohamed Salah’s finish from close range in the 81st minute as the Mancunian giants ended up securing a hard-fought 2-1 win in front of their home supporters.

Let’s take a look at how each Man United player performed during the match against the Reds.

GK: David de Gea – 6.5/10

The Man United keeper didn’t have to make any world-class saves tonight but did his job well when called into action.

RB: Diogo Dalot – 6.5/10

Dalot did enough to keep Luis Diaz quiet for most of the game.

CB: Raphael Varane – 6.5/10

He got booked in the first half but used his experience well to see out the win the second.

CB: Lisandro Martinez – 7/10

Martinez made a lot of important clearances and did enough to restrict Liverpool from scoring more than once tonight.

LB: Tyrell Malacia – 7/10

He had the big task of guarding Salah and did well to contain him for most of the game.

CM: Christian Eriksen – 6/10

Eriksen struggled to get into the flow of the game but went close to scoring with his freekick. He did well to last 85 minutes.

CM: Scott McTominay – 7/10

He protected his backline really well and worked hard off the ball.

RW: Jadon Sancho – 7.5/10

Sancho took his goal well in the first half and worked hard defensively as well.

CAM: Bruno Fernandes – 6.5/10

He showed some flashes of what he is capable of but never looked like he would score. Fernandes got booked for diving in the second half.

LW: Anthony Elanga – 6.5/10

Elanga’s pace caused a few problems for the Liverpool defenders. However, he wasted a glorious chance to open the goal-scoring.

ST: Marcus Rashford – 7/10

He led the line well on his own and took his goal well after beating the off-side trap in the 53rd minute.

LW: Anthony Martial – 7/10

Martial picked up an assist for setting up Rashford’s goal.

CM: Fred – 6/10

He added some energy to Erik ten Hag’s midfield.

ST: Cristiano Ronaldo – N/A

Ronaldo didn’t get enough minutes to warrant a rating.

RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka – N/A

He kept things tidy at the back.

CM: Donny van de Beek – N/A

Van de Beek hardly had any time to influence the game.
