West Ham United are set to face Aston Villa as they travel to Villa Park on Sunday afternoon, hoping for a better outcome. The Hammers have failed to score a single goal in their last three Premier League fixtures, so they will be hoping to recover from a poor start to this campaign.
They lost 2-0 to Brighton in the English first division last weekend but recovered right after as they managed to produce a 6-1 aggregate win in the Europa League play-offs against Viborg, so that could help boost the confidence of the East London club.
David Moyes is expected to deploy a 4-2-3-1 formation against the Villans as he hopes to secure all three points in this away encounter.
4-2-3-1 West Ham United Predicted Lineup To Face Aston Villa
Defence
Alphonse Areola will operate in between the sticks for the Hammers hoping to give a strong performance and secure a clean sheet. Thilo Kehrer will start at the centre-back position to form a defensive partnership with Kurt Zouma at the heart of West Ham’s defence as they look to collectively stop the opponent’s attack.
Ben Johnson will function at right-back while Aaron Cresswell fills in on the other flank as the left-back. Both of them will need to stretch the opposition in the final third and stay compact when on defence.
Angelo Ogbonna will have to settle for a spot on the bench as he builds his fitness, while Craig Dawson remains sidelined after injuring his thigh in the last fixture.
Midfield
Declan Rice and Thomas Soucek will operate as the holding midfielders as they look to efficiently distribute the ball in the centre of the park. Rice will be expected to step up and create more chances for the front line.
The midfield trio would comprise Said Benrahma, Pablo Fornals and Jarrod Bowen, who will need to find a way to create more opportunities in front of the goal after failing to be productive in the attacking third since the start of this campaign.
Manuel Lanzini will drop to the bench as he awaits his chance to impress in the second half if required.
Attack
Michael Antonio will lead the line for the East London club on his own up top. He will need to fancy his chances of finding the back of the net if the Hammers want to defeat Aston Villa this weekend.
Gianluca Scamacca will be available for selection on the bench and might come on to make an impact in the latter stages of the game if West Ham require a goal.
