In a recent report, De Telegraaf revealed that Everton have set their sights on Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Bergwijn. It has been claimed that the Toffees are willing to pay what Spurs are asking for the Dutch wide player this summer.

Bergwijn’s Growing Struggles At North London Last Season

Bergwijn played a sporadic role in Antonio Conte’s squad in the previous campaign but managed to impress at times with his performances off the bench. The 24-year-old scored four goals and secured two assists in 32 appearances for the North London club last season across multiple competitions.

The Dutch talent saw most of his playing time come off the bench which explains why he only averaged 0.8 shots, 0.3 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. However, he took care of the ball relatively well in the opponent’s half as he completed 84.2% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).

Is Bergwijn A Decent Signing For Everton Boss Frank Lampard?

Bergwijn can use his quickness and agility to make a few dangerous runs with the ball out on the flanks. He can strike the ball with power and can even engineer some meaningful openings for his teammates on the attacking end of the field. Bergwijn has mainly played as a left-sided wide player for Spurs but can even operate as a right-winger or act as a centre-forward down the middle if needed.

However, the Dutch speedster is in dire need to earn more first-team football in the coming seasons. Hence, Bergwijn should opt for a change of scenery by joining Everton, where he will be guaranteed regular playing opportunities, this summer.

We can expect the Dutch wing wizard to enhance the quality of Frank Lampard‘s attack. He could even help the Merseyside outfit push for a top-half finish in the Premier League next season.

At 24, the future is quite bright for Bergwijn as long as he continues to take strides towards improving himself with each season. Therefore, the Tottenham outcast could turn out to be a decent signing for the Toffees during this summer transfer window.
