Aston Villa entertained Southampton at Villa Park earlier today as they focused on collecting all three points at home. The Villans made a great start to the game and got their noses ahead in the ninth minute courtesy of Ollie Watkins’ brilliant finish. Douglas Luiz doubled the home team’s advantage just before the half-time break as the Villans led 2-0 at the midway point of the game.

Philippe Coutinho killed the game off in the 52nd minute before Danny Ings added another goal just two minutes later. Steven Gerrard’s men controlled the game well and cruised to a dominant 4-0 victory in front of their home fans.

Let’s take a look at how each Aston Villa player fared during the clash against the Saints.

GK: Emiliano Martinez – 6.5/10

The Argentine keeper had to make one save in the game and earned an easy clean sheet at home.

RB: Matty Cash – 8/10

He performed his defensive duties very well and managed to orchestrate a couple of decent chances in the final third. Cash has got an assist to show for his efforts.

CB: Calum Chambers – 7.5/10

Chambers made plenty of crucial clearances at the back and did enough to restrict the opposition from scoring during the 90 minutes.

CB: Tyrone Mings – 7/10

The Villans centre-back secured possession back a few times and would be pleased with the clean sheet today.

McGinn anchored the midfield well and managed to engineer a few clear-cut chances in the attacking end of the field.

CM: Douglas Luiz – 8/10

The Brazilian sensation protected his teammates at the back with conviction and scored his team’s second goal just before half-time.

CM: Jacob Ramsey – 6.5/10

He got stuck in with some solid tackles but offered very little in the final third.

RW: Ollie Watkins – 8/10

Watkins caused a few decent chances in the opponent’s half and managed to get his name on the scoresheet early in the game.

ST: Danny Ings – 8.5/10

He was unforgiving in the final third and ended the game with a goal and two assists to his name.

LW: Philippe Coutinho – 8.5/10

Coutinho ran the show in the opposition half and did well to secure a goal and an assist during his time on the field.

CM: Morgan Sanson – 6/10

He added some energy to Gerrard’s midfield.
