Newcastle United entertained Everton at St. James’ Park earlier tonight as they looked to secure a positive result at home. The Magpies made a solid start to the game but conceded the opening goal in the 36th minute when Jamaal Lascelles scored an unfortunate own goal. However, Mason Holgate scored an own goal for Everton as well just a minute later which meant both teams went into the half-time break with a 1-1 scoreline.

Ryan Fraser capitalised on a defensive mistake and put the Magpies ahead in the 56th minute before Kieran Trippier made the points secure with an excellent freekick in the 80th minute. The contest ended with the Tyneside outfit earning a 3-1 win in front of their home supporters.

Let’s take a look at how each Newcastle United player performed during the match against the Toffees.

GK: Martin Dubravka – 6.5/10

The Magpies goalie made a couple of important saves and did enough to restrict the opposition from scoring more than once tonight.

RB: Kieran Trippier – 8.5/10

He made a couple of crucial defensive contributions and engineered a handful of promising chances for his teammates. Trippier scored with a superb freekick in the second half to cap off a great win for Newcastle.

CB: Jamaal Lascelles – 7/10

Lascelles was unfortunate to score an own goal. However, he recovered well and produced a solid display in the second half.

CB: Fabian Schar – 7.5/10

He earned the ball back a few times and cleared his lines when needed on the defensive end of the pitch.

LB: Matt Targett – 7/10

The English left-back performed his defensive duties well and had two lively moments in the opponent’s half.

CM: Joe Willock – 7.5/10

Willock performed his defensive duties well and made multiple runs with the ball from midfield.

CM: Jonjo Shelvey – 7/10

Shelvey made two crucial interceptions during the game and was bright on the ball.

CM: Joelinton – 7.5/10

He tracked back to defend when needed and made a couple of decent chances in the final third.

RW: Ryan Fraser – 7/10

Fraser kept trying and managed to get his name on the scoresheet in the 56th minute after pouncing on Michal Keane’s mistake.

ST: Chris Wood – 7/10

Wood worked hard to hold the ball up for others around him but there was no goal for him tonight.

LW: Allan Saint-Maximin – 8.5/10

He caused all kinds of problems for the Everton defenders because of his excellent dribbling down the left flank. Saint-Maximin managed to fashion some clear-cut openings for his teammates to score.

Substitutes:

RW: Jacob Murphy – N/A

Murphy didn’t get enough minutes to warrant a rating.

RB: Javier Manquillo – N/A

He came on to run the clock down.

CM: Bruno Guimaraes – N/A

Guimaraes didn’t get enough time to influence the game.
