In a recent report, The Telegraph revealed that Chelsea are eager to seal a loan move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez this summer. It is understood that the Blues are considering a late loan move for the Spanish midfield ace with just a few days left to run before the end of this transfer window.

Saul’s Impressive Campaign At The Spanish Capital

Saul played an instrumental role behind Atletico’s La Liga title win last season when he put in a series of dominant displays for them at the centre of the park. The Spanish sensation featured in 41 matches for the Madrid giants in the previous campaign, registering two goals and one assist across all competitions.

The Elche-born midfielder proved his worth as a decent contributor at the heart of Diego Simeone’s midfield as he averaged 1.7 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 1.0 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game in La Liga last season. He also took care of the ball when interchanging possession with his teammates after making 84.4% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

Saul has been a great servant to the Madrid outfit but he might be tempted to switch clubs this summer in search of a fresh adventure away from his homeland. Therefore, Thomas Tuchel would be wise to make an attempt to land him either on loan or permanently this month.

What Will Saul Bring To Stamford Bridge?

Saul can play a variety of passes from midfield and keep the ball moving efficiently going forward. He can read the game well and is not shy of getting stuck in with a few solid tackles to hamper the opposition’s rhythm in the game. The 26-year-old has developed a winning mindset under the stewardship of Simeone and could prove himself to be a key asset for a top club like Chelsea this season.

Tuchel should consider orchestrating a move to lure Saul to Stamford Bridge as he will bring a lot of bite and steel to his midfield department. However, the Spaniard needs to improve his numbers in the final third if he wants to be a success story in English football.

At 26, Saul’s best years are just ahead of him, so the Blues can expect to make the most out of his services in the coming seasons. Plus, the 19-time Spain international will keep N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and N’Golo Kante on their toes for the right to start in Tuchel’s first team over the next few years.
