Sky Sports has recently provided an update on Bournemouth winger David Brooks’ future amid interest from Liverpool among other Premier League clubs this summer. The Cherries are yet to receive any offers for their prized asset despite the growing interest from top-flight clubs including the Reds in this off-season (via Sky Sports).

Brooks’ Poor Season At Bournemouth

The Welsh youngster had to undergo an ankle surgery which kept him out on a significant chunk of the previous Premier League campaign. He got his name on the scoresheet just once in nine league games for Eddie Howe’s team last season.

Brooks ended the campaign averaging 0.7 shots, 0.7 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in the English top-flight. His numbers go to show just how much he has struggled to be effective in the final third over the past 12 months. The 23-year-old even managed to complete 73.9% of his attempted passes in league football which suggests that he should be more careful with his ball-distribution in the opposition half (stats via whoscored).

Injuries have hampered the 12-time Welsh international’s progress at the Vitality Stadium, so this summer could be his ideal chance to make a return to the English top tier to play for a top club like Liverpool. Brooks’ potential is undeniable, but there are some concerns over whether he has what it takes to stay injury-free and perform in the Premier League at a consistent level week in week out.

What Will The Welsh Wing Wizard Add To Jurgen Klopp’s Team?

Brooks can breeze past his marker using his speed and agility while operating on the flanks. He excels at completing some dangerous dribbles out on the wide areas but has sometimes been guilty of being indecisive in the final third. At 23, the Welsh playmaker is still young and needs more first-team experience to turn his career around at the highest level. When everything is clicking for him, he can be a decent chance-creator and tends to contribute by scoring a few goals in the decisive end of the pitch as well.

Should The Reds Launch A Move For Brooks This Summer?

At the moment, Brooks is nowhere near the level of Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane, but he could act as a capable option by providing cover for them in Jurgen Klopp’s match-day squad next season. If the Bournemouth star can stay injury-free, then he stands a good chance of becoming a top player in the Premier League someday.

With all things considered, Klopp does not need to bring in a new attacking winger like Brooks as he has already got Divock Origi, Takumi Minamino, Harvey Elliot and Rhian Brewster waiting for their chance to impress as part of the Liverpool first-team.
